Network For Good

The recent, and ongoing, but now under control, California wildfires demonstrate the need for Americans to help Americans. The NETWORK FOR GOOD provides a way for people to help with contributions of money, goods, and services.

From the NETWORK FOR GOOD site:

"We are the largest nonprofit charitable giving site online. On our site, you can research and donate to more than one million U.S. charities in one place and you can also search more than 40,000 volunteer opportunities. Do Good. Feel Good. TM"

Donors Choose

Donors Choose is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund.

10 Questions

Crooks & Liars is co-sponsoring 10 Questions, a way for the public to ask questions of Presidential candidates from both parties. Present your question in the form of a video and have it voted on by the public. The winning questions will be presented to the candidates for consideration. The candidates then answer your question. You get to decide if they actually answered your question.

Green For All

The GREEN FOR ALL campaign was started by an Oakland black environmentalist named Van Jones. Unfortunately I learned about it from a Wednesday, October 17, 2007, Thomas L Friedman column in the New York Times. Just that mention is enough to doom it to failure. But maybe not. Mr Jones has started a union training program to teach local people how to install solar panels and weatherize buildings. He is collaborating with Majora Carter of Sustainable South Bronx to train 30,000 young people a year in green trades. One can only hope that the Friedman imprimatur doesn't doom both enterprises.
